NDC joins the global community in mourning the passing of the Rev. Jesse Jackson

The NDC joins the global community in mourning the passing of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, a towering figure in the struggle for civil rights, social justice, and human dignity.

Reverend Jackson’s life was defined by courage, conviction, and an unshakable belief that justice must be accessible to all. From his leadership within the American civil rights movement to his historic presidential campaigns, he challenged systems of inequality and inspired millions to believe that their voices mattered. His message transcended borders, reminding small nations and great powers alike that democracy must serve the people, especially the marginalized and unheard.

For us in Grenada and across the Caribbean, Reverend Jackson represented more than an American leader; he was a symbol of possibility. His advocacy for equality, economic empowerment, and global solidarity resonated deeply within societies shaped by colonial history and ongoing struggles for fairness. He stood firm in the belief that progress demands participation and that leadership requires moral clarity.

Political Leader of the NDC and Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell, expressed profound sorrow at the news of Reverend Jackson’s passing:

“Reverend Jesse Jackson was a voice for the voiceless and a conscience for the powerful. He taught the world that justice is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all. His life’s work reminds us that leadership is not measured by position, but by purpose. As a small island state, Grenada understands the importance of standing firmly for dignity, equality, and opportunity. Reverend Jackson’s legacy challenges us to continue building societies where every citizen can rise, contribute, and thrive.”

The Prime Minister further noted that Reverend Jackson’s unwavering faith and commitment to peaceful advocacy demonstrated that transformative change is achieved not through division, but through disciplined, principled action.

As we reflect on his life, we are reminded that movements are sustained not only by passion but by perseverance. Reverend Jackson endured setbacks yet remained steadfast. He confronted injustice yet refused to surrender hope. In doing so, he embodied the resilience that defines true leadership.

The National Democratic Congress extends sincere condolences to Reverend Jackson’s family, colleagues, and supporters around the world. May his legacy continue to inspire generations to pursue justice with courage, to lead with compassion, and to believe, without hesitation, that better is always possible.

May he rest in eternal peace.
